The Milwaukee Brewers captured their first World Series championship in franchise history with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field.
Misiorowski delivers scoreless start
Young ace Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, before leaving the game with a right calf cramp. The 22-year-old right-hander received a standing ovation from Brewers fans who filled the section behind the visitors' dugout for the final three games of the series.
Pratt sets rookie hit record
Rookie Cooper Pratt contributed two hits and two RBIs, extending his Series rookie record to six consecutive hits before a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Outfielder Jackson Chourio also set a five-game Series record with 11 total hits.
Long wait ends for Milwaukee
The title arrives in the franchise's 58th season, which began as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 before relocating to Milwaukee the following year. The Brewers' only previous World Series appearance in 1982 ended in a Game 7 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals after they surrendered a 3-1 lead in the sixth inning.
