ABC Delays High Potential Season 3 to 2027, Plans Super Bowl Special

ABC has announced that the third season of its hit police drama "High Potential" will not return until 2027, pushing back the previously expected fall premiere. The network revealed that a special episode will air immediately after Super Bowl LXI on Sunday, February 14, though no specific date has been set for the full season launch.

Season Two Cliffhanger Leaves Key Character's Fate Uncertain

The second season concluded on April 7 with a dramatic cliffhanger in which Captain Nick Wagner, played by Steve Howey, was gravely injured after being shot during a secret meeting. Howey joined the series as a regular last October on a one-year contract that has now expired, and Deadline reports it is unclear whether he will depart permanently or return as a guest star. Lead actress Kaitlin Olson, who portrays consultant Morgan Gillory, told People the cliffhangers create many possibilities for the next season.

Olson also explained to Variety that the Wagner character was designed to challenge Morgan's intellect and trust, creating a dynamic that was "fun to explore and play with." The pair shared their first and only kiss in the penultimate episode of season two.

"High Potential" has been a ratings success for ABC since its debut in 2024, making the delayed return a notable scheduling shift for the network.
