The Philippine interior minister has stated that current evidence points to Thomas Markle Sr being a "possible sex offender of the grossest kind," pending the results of a full forensic investigation. Authorities in the Philippines are currently analyzing digital images allegedly discovered at the former residence of the Duchess of Sussex's estranged father in Cebu.
Investigation into Digital Evidence
The investigation follows reports from Thomas Markle Jr., Meghan's half-brother, who informed authorities that he discovered a vast collection of child sexual abuse images stored on computers and mobile phones. These materials were reportedly found in four large boxes at the Cebu home where Markle Sr. had been residing before returning to the United States earlier this year.
Philippine Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla confirmed that the national police inspected the premises and recovered a laptop alongside the alleged materials. Remulla noted that forensic data analysis is expected to be completed within a week, after which a definitive statement will be released. The Philippine National Police will coordinate with relevant agencies to pursue legal action if sufficient evidence is found to charge Markle Sr.
Denials and Legal Context
Thomas Markle Sr. has vehemently denied the accusations, labeling them "sick lies" and "bullshit." He maintained that the computers in question had not been in his possession since he left Mexico in 2025. He further stated that while he had traveled to the Philippines in the past, he had never engaged in sexual activity with anyone under the age of 18.
The Duchess of Sussex released a statement expressing deep distress over the news and emphasizing that her decision to sever contact with her father was intended to protect her children. She noted that she had been made aware of troubling allegations via the Metropolitan Police in 2019 and had been assured they were being investigated at that time.
International Cooperation
The FBI has confirmed it is aware of the allegations and is prepared to support Philippine authorities, adding that it will investigate any related violations of United States federal law. Meanwhile, Scotland Yard is reviewing its previous handling of the claims made to the Duchess and the Duke of Sussex in 2019.
