Edmunds Names Four Best Used Electric SUVs Under $25,000

By Karim Hammam

The growing supply of used electric vehicles has made electric SUVs more accessible to shoppers who do not want to pay new-car prices. With a budget around $25,000, buyers can now find newer models that offer gas-free motoring without the high cost of brand-new EVs. To help narrow the field, automotive website Edmunds has identified four used electric SUVs that stand out at this price point.

Chevrolet Equinox EV

Introduced for the 2024 model year, the Equinox EV combines long range, a smooth ride, and a generous list of standard features at an affordable price. The EPA estimates a range of up to 319 miles on a single charge. Edmunds experts say the Equinox EV offers compelling value for a small yet surprisingly roomy electric SUV. The 2LT trim is recommended for its heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, hands-free liftgate, and driver aids such as adaptive cruise control and a 360-degree camera system.

Ford Mustang Mach-E

Launched in 2021, the Mustang Mach-E delivers sporty performance that lives up to its iconic nameplate. It earns points for an upscale interior, an intuitively designed infotainment system, and physical controls for commonly used features. An available extended-range battery pack enables more than 300 miles of range. The Premium trim with the extended-range battery offers the most range in the lineup, while the GT trim provides more power. Shoppers should be able to find a 2021 to 2023 Mach-E below the $25,000 budget.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

Quick, comfortable, and user-friendly, the Ioniq 5 has been an Edmunds favorite since its 2022 debut. Its retro-futuristic styling adds flair to a segment where subdued design is common, while generous passenger space, fast charging, and ample range make it a pragmatic choice. A strong suite of standard driver-assistance features rounds out the package. Low-mileage 2022–2024 models are plentiful under $25,000, though Edmunds advises avoiding the base SE Standard Range trim due to its 220-mile EPA range estimate. All other trims feature a larger battery pack, with rear-wheel-drive versions delivering 303 miles of EPA-estimated range.

Volkswagen ID.4

The Volkswagen ID.4 combines a comfortable ride, spacious interior, and useful range with a relaxed character suited for daily use. Depending on the version, the EPA estimates up to 275 miles per charge, and its roomy cabin and generous cargo capacity make it practical for families and road trips. Significant depreciation has made nearly new, low-mileage ID.4s easy to find. Edmunds suggests targeting a 2023 model in the well-equipped Pro S trim, which received a larger standard touchscreen, synthetic leather upholstery, upgraded front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
