Met Office Issues Dense Fog Warning for Parts of UK

By Fatma Younis

The Met Office has warned drivers that dense fog is expected to settle over central and southern England on Thursday morning, potentially causing travel disruption. The alert follows a weekend of severe storms that left three people dead.

Fog Warning for Thursday Morning

Forecaster Alex Burkill said mist and fog could become locally dense across central and southern England, creating hazardous driving conditions. The fog may be slow to clear in some areas, but Friday and the weekend will bring a shift to high pressure with cloud and light rain in northwestern regions.

Weekend Storms Claim Lives

Storms Austen and Boelo battered the UK with winds reaching 110 mph. A man in his 20s was killed by a falling tree in Finchley, north London, and Richard Baines, 60, died in a similar incident in Dumfries and Galloway. A woman in her 50s died after being swept into the sea off the Isle of Wight while walking her dog; the dog survived.

Weather Pattern Shift

Forecaster Craig Snell described a "big flip" from low to high pressure over the next 48 hours. Wednesday will remain blustery with scattered showers before winds ease. Thursday will be mainly dry after morning fog clears, with temperatures near average. The outlook for Friday to Sunday includes rain moving into northern and western areas, while other parts stay largely dry with variable cloud and night-time fog.
