Met Office Warns of Dense Fog Disrupting UK Travel

By Karim Hammam

The Met Office has warned drivers that dense fog is expected to settle across central and southern England on Thursday morning, potentially causing travel disruption on the roads.

Fog Warning for Thursday

Forecaster Alex Burkill said mist and fog could be locally dense and slow to clear, creating hazardous driving conditions. Fellow forecaster Craig Snell described a "big flip in the weather" as high pressure replaces the low-pressure systems that brought stormy conditions over the weekend.

Weekend Storms Claim Lives

Storms Austen and Boelo battered the UK with winds reaching 110 mph, prompting multiple "danger to life" warnings. Two men were killed by falling trees: a man in his 20s in Finchley, north London, and Richard Baines, 60, in Dumfries and Galloway. A woman in her 50s died after being pulled from the sea off the Isle of Wight while walking her dog.

Five-Day Outlook

Thursday will be mainly dry after morning fog clears, with temperatures near average. Rain will move into northern and western areas Friday and Saturday, while other regions remain largely dry and settled with variable cloud and night-time fog.
