Anthropic is rapidly accelerating its artificial intelligence development even as its chief executive has publicly called for a slowdown in the industry, according to a research group monitoring the sector.
The company, founded by former OpenAI researchers, has doubled the pace of its model releases and capability advances over the past year, the group said. This acceleration comes despite CEO Dario Amodei's repeated warnings about the risks of unchecked AI progress and his advocacy for responsible scaling policies.
Amodei has testified before lawmakers and written extensively about the need for government oversight and industry-wide safety standards. The reported disconnect between his public stance and the company's development trajectory has raised questions among AI safety researchers about voluntary commitments versus commercial pressures.
