Australian boxer Skye Nicolson has rebounded from her sole professional loss to become a two-weight world champion and will make her debut with Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) on Sunday against Miyo Yoshida in Dallas.
Loss prompts move down in weight
Nicolson suffered a split-decision defeat to unbeaten Tiara Brown in March 2025, a result she attributes to mental and external factors rather than physical preparation. After the loss, she worked with a nutritionist and discovered her ideal division was super-bantamweight (122 lbs), dropping from featherweight (126 lbs). Nicolson says she now feels physically at her best.
Four straight wins and new title
Since moving down, Nicolson has won four consecutive fights, including two-round stoppages in her first two super-bantamweight bouts. In April she outpointed Mariah Turner to win the interim WBC super-bantamweight title, which was upgraded to a full championship when Britain's Ellie Scotney vacated the belt.
Strategic alliance with MVP
Matchroom and MVP have formed a "strategic alliance" allowing Nicolson to fight under the MVP banner while remaining with Matchroom. She says the partnership offers the best of both worlds and aims to unify the division, targeting undisputed status by 2027.
Upcoming fight and future plans
Nicolson faces Yoshida on Sunday in Dallas. She eyes unification bouts against the winner of Ramla Ali vs Mikiah Kreps and Melissa Mortensen, and insists a rematch with Brown is inevitable. She also remains open to fights at featherweight.
Preparation and mindset
Describing herself as a reactive fighter, Nicolson focuses on gym work rather than extensive opponent tape study. She leaves game-planning to her team and concentrates on being ready for any style in the ring.
