Ofgem has opened an investigation into whether ScottishPower complied with rules on treating customers fairly and supporting vulnerable households. The regulator will examine the energy firm's adherence to licence conditions relating to fair treatment of domestic customers, including those in vulnerable situations, and support for those struggling to pay bills.
Scope of Investigation
The probe will also cover ScottishPower's compliance with restrictions on backbilling customers for energy used more than 12 months earlier, and its efforts regarding the Priority Services Register, which provides extra support for certain vulnerable customers.
Ofgem emphasized that the opening of the investigation does not imply any findings of non-compliance. A spokesman said the regulator expects suppliers to treat customers fairly and respectfully, ensuring accurate bills and appropriate support for vulnerable people. Ofgem will report its findings after assessing all relevant evidence.
A ScottishPower spokesman confirmed the company is working with Ofgem in relation to its customer service obligations.
