Police have launched a murder investigation into the death of non-league footballer Ezekiel Williams, 26, who died in hospital on Monday after a suspected assault in Milton Keynes on Sunday morning.
Arrests made
Thames Valley Police said officers were called by South Central Ambulance Service shortly after 1:50am GMT on Sunday, finding Williams with serious injuries. Two men, aged 21 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three have been remanded in custody.
Police statement
Detective Inspector Rob Underhill of the force’s major crime unit said three arrests had been made and there was no wider risk to the local community. He added that an increased police presence would remain in and around The Hub and Milton Keynes city centre over the coming days.
Club tribute
Williams joined Isthmian League South Central Division side Hendon FC in September after spells at Kettering Town and Marlow FC. He scored his first goal for the club nine days before his death in a 4-2 defeat to Jersey Bulls. Hendon described him as a humble, popular member of the dressing room and postponed their London Senior Cup tie with Woodford Town on Wednesday as a mark of respect.
