The Rugby Football Union has extended head coach Steve Borthwick's contract through summer 2028, confirming he will lead England into next year's World Cup.
Backing after disappointing Six Nations
RFU chief executive Bill Sweeney said the union remains committed to Borthwick despite a poor Six Nations campaign that included a first-ever loss to Italy and a heavy defeat to South Africa. Sweeney cited a thorough review and progress in subsequent matches.
Discipline focus
The review highlighted discipline issues, with England receiving 14 yellow cards and one red card in 2026. Sweeney noted the team's world ranking drops significantly when down to 14 players.
Upcoming fixtures and Fin Smith update
England face Australia on Sunday in the Nations Championship, with assistant coach Richard Wigglesworth saying fly-half Fin Smith trained fully and is cautiously optimistic to play. Back-rower Ben Earl praised Smith's form.
British sprinter visits camp
European sprint champion Amy Hunt visited the England camp on Wednesday, having won four gold medals at the European Championships earlier this year.
