UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has intervened in Sky's planned £1.6 billion acquisition of ITV's media and entertainment arm, citing public interest concerns.
Regulatory probe
Nandy will ask the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and broadcasting regulator Ofcom to investigate the deal and report back by January 27 on competition and media public interest grounds.
Legislative changes
The Secretary said she will bring forward streaming legislation to extend public interest considerations to on-demand programmes, aligning with modern viewing habits.
She may refer the deal to the CMA for a further in-depth investigation after receiving the reports.
