Victoria police say attack on One Nation supporter not politically motivated

Victoria police have said an alleged attack on a 60-year-old One Nation supporter in Torquay is not being treated as politically motivated, and clarified that a “blunt weapon” was used rather than a baseball bat as initially reported.

A 37-year-old man from Hampton Park and a 14-year-old boy were arrested over the incident, which occurred outside the victim’s home on Sunday night. Police originally stated a baseball bat was used but updated their statement on Wednesday to refer to a blunt weapon.

Politicians from across the spectrum condemned the assault. One Nation federal leader Pauline Hanson visited the alleged victim at Geelong hospital on Tuesday, and the party launched an online fundraiser that had raised more than $250,000 by Wednesday afternoon.
