Haas has terminated Esteban Ocon's contract with immediate effect following a dispute with team management, the American outfit confirmed on Tuesday. The French driver will not race for the team again, with Ferrari academy driver Rafael Camara stepping in for this weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Ocon Removed Mid-Season
Ocon was dropped midway through the previous round in Mexico City. Haas provided no public explanation for the decision, though Ocon denied reports of a physical altercation while acknowledging a disagreement with team bosses. His departure had already been announced for the end of the 2026 season, but the team elected to act early.
Camara Promoted from Formula 2
Camara, who currently leads the Formula 2 championship, will partner British driver Ollie Bearman at Interlagos. The Brazilian is a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy and makes his Formula 1 debut with four rounds remaining on the calendar.
Team Principal Cites Internal Matter
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu, speaking on Sky Sports during the Mexico weekend, declined to detail the circumstances, describing the issue as an "internal matter." He stated the decision was made in the best interest of the team moving forward and that conversations with Ocon would remain private.
Antonelli Clinches Title Early
Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli secured the 2026 drivers' championship last weekend, becoming the youngest title winner in Formula 1 history at age 20. The Italian leads nearest rival Max Verstappen by 199 points with four races left, which include Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi.
