Gary, a 67-year-old retired garment technologist, has become the seventh baker to leave The Great British Bake Off after the show's "free from" week challenge.
Free-from challenge proves difficult
Contestants were tasked with producing a bake that was gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan while maintaining flavor. Gary said the challenge was his least favorite because he had not practiced it much at home.
Gary's reaction and reflections
Upon elimination, Gary said he was "really, really proud" and had not expected to reach this stage. He mentioned his main aim was to reach week three. He described the experience as "probably one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life."
Star Baker and judge comments
Presenter Noel Fielding announced Gabe as Star Baker of the week. Co-host Alison Hammond informed Gary of his departure. Judge Paul Hollywood joked about missing his "doppelganger" and teased Gary about wearing the same color shirts.
Background and future episodes
Gary, born and raised in Chesterfield, now lives in Nottinghamshire with his wife Donna. He discovered baking five years ago after buying a cookbook. The Great British Bake Off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
