House Republicans Accuse APA of Antisemitism in Scathing Report

By Ahmed Abdelsalam

House Republicans on Thursday released a scathing report accusing the American Psychological Association of antisemitism, alleging that anti-Jewish sentiment has permeated the organization’s resolutions, communications, and conferences.

Committee Findings

The report, issued by the House Education and Workforce Committee, concludes that “radical activist-academics” within the A.P.A. have promoted ideology that demonizes Israel, minimizes Hamas terrorism, and portrays Jews as white oppressors. The committee cited emails, listserv exchanges, newsletters, and publications as evidence.

Association Rejects Charges

A.P.A. President Wendi S. Williams flatly rejected the accusations, stating the organization “unequivocally condemns antisemitism in all its forms.” The association represents nearly 200,000 members and accredits more than 1,300 training programs, including doctoral internships and postdoctoral residencies.

Broader Political Context

Since gaining control of the House in 2023, Republicans have held hearings targeting antisemitism in academia and progressive institutions. Critics argue the Trump administration has weaponized such claims against longstanding conservative targets. The report follows a Department of Education committee recommendation to limit the A.P.A.’s accrediting authority.
