Novak Djokovic kept his hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals alive with a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-1 comeback victory over Valentin Vacherot in the first round of the Paris Masters on Tuesday.
Djokovic battles past Vacherot
The Serbian, playing his first Paris Masters in three years, saved three set points in the opening tie-break but lost the set after Vacherot won four consecutive points. Vacherot broke serve early in the second set before Djokovic took a medical timeout for his right shoulder. Djokovic retrieved the break and took control after Vacherot called for treatment on his left foot, clinching the second set and dominating the third.
Fery falls to Halys
British number one Arthur Fery missed two set points in the first-set tie-break and lost 7-6 (6), 7-5 to Frenchman Quentin Halys, despite producing a between-the-legs drop shot winner.
