Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, has weighed in on the search for the next 007. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Brosnan praised the reported frontrunners — Josh O’Connor, Jack Lowden, and Callum Turner — but singled out Turner for particular praise.

Brosnan endorses Turner

Brosnan, 73, worked with Turner in the 2017 drama The Only Living Boy in New York, where they played father and son. “Callum Turner is someone I’ve worked with, and he’s so strong,” Brosnan said. “They all have a voice and a physique, and a presence on film. They all have longevity as actors.”

Praise for director Denis Villeneuve

Brosnan also expressed enthusiasm about Denis Villeneuve directing the next Bond film. “I think we are going to be blown away. He is such an iconoclastic director. His work is visionary,” Brosnan said. He added that the new film would be “truly magnificent.”

Last year, Brosnan told The Independent he would not rule out returning as an older Bond if the series pursued that direction.
