Nile Rodgers, co-founder of Chic, revealed he once stormed out of a recording session with Madonna during the making of her 1984 album "Like a Virgin" after a dispute over how she treated a studio assistant.
Studio Argument Over Assistant
Speaking on the "Ruthie's Table 4" podcast, Rodgers, 74, said he and Madonna argued frequently. He described an incident where an assistant left to use the bathroom, and Madonna insisted the assistant should have asked permission first. Rodgers objected, saying she could not treat people that way, and announced he was quitting.
Walkout and Return
As Rodgers waited for the elevator, Madonna followed him and asked, "Nile, does that mean you don't love me anymore?" He laughed, returned to the studio, and they completed the album, which became the biggest record of the year.
Rodgers Praises Madonna's Focus
Despite the clashes, Rodgers said he admires Madonna's focus. He called her the most focused artist he has ever worked with, noting she never questioned his production decisions and would repeat a song dozens of times if he asked. He added that her only issue was wanting to assert she was the boss while he was the producer.
