Nicolas Cage Displaced by Sinkhole at Malibu Home

By Islam El-Sakka

Actor Nicolas Cage said he is "a little bit homeless" after a large sinkhole opened in the driveway of his Malibu mansion in September, forcing him to live in hotels. Speaking at a Los Angeles Comic Con panel over the weekend, Cage explained he could not host trick-or-treaters for Halloween because of the displacement.

Sinkhole Details and Impact

The sinkhole began forming on September 7 and fully emerged the next day, measuring 25 to 30 feet deep and 30 by 60 feet wide, according to a City of Malibu emergency proclamation. The collapse caused a gas leak, prompting authorities to shut off gas services in the area. Seven homes were "red-tagged" as hazardous, and an additional 24 lost safe vehicular access. No injuries were reported.

City officials said the local housing association would handle repairs, estimated to take up to five weeks depending on conditions. Aerial imagery has not confirmed whether the house itself sustained structural damage. Representatives for Cage did not respond to requests for comment, and the city has not released further updates on the sinkhole.
