Brian Brobbey has signed a contract extension with Premier League bottom club Sunderland, keeping the Dutch striker on Wearside until 2031.
The 24-year-old joined the Black Cats from Ajax last season for a reported £21.6 million and impressed in his first year in England, scoring seven goals and providing one assist.
Brobbey went on to star for the Netherlands at the World Cup, netting three goals in four appearances before their last-32 exit to Morocco.
His three goals this season all came away to Manchester City, where he notched a hat-trick in Sunderland's chaotic 5-3 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
"I'm really happy with the confidence the club has shown in me," Brobbey said. "Since I arrived, I've felt the ambition here, and I want to keep growing and improving as a player."
Brobbey's influential debut campaign sparked transfer interest from Europe's biggest clubs, with Bayern Munich monitoring the forward earlier this year with a view to a potential summer move.
No move materialised, and Brobbey has since been part of Sunderland's collective struggle at the Stadium of Light. Regis Le Bris's side sit bottom of the table with just five points from nine matches, six months after earning Europa League qualification in their first campaign back in the top flight.
Brobbey has also endured injury setbacks this term, missing four matches across all competitions due to a hamstring injury in October.
