Osman: Celebrity Traitors to cast game players after Acaster exit

By Karim Hammam

Richard Osman has suggested that producers of Celebrity Traitors will prioritize casting "game players" for the next series following James Acaster's unprecedented confession during the semi-final roundtable.

Acaster's roundtable confession

Acaster, 41, admitted to being a Traitor after mild questioning from Michael Sheen, breaking the Traitors' oath to never reveal their identity. The move left fellow Traitors in a difficult position and was described by Osman as "a hand grenade" on his podcast The Rest is Entertainment.

Casting adjustments predicted

Osman, a former TV producer whose credits include 8 Out of 10 Cats, said producers will likely look for contestants from sport or similar competitive backgrounds. He noted that the show's strongest game player, Bella, was banished early, and that casting can never be perfect because players are eliminated.

Series outcome and aftermath

After Acaster's exit, fellow Traitor Maya Jama was voted out before the end game. The remaining players banished Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and the last Traitor, King Kenny, was subsequently banished. James Blunt then secured his own banishment, leaving Faithfuls Sebastian Croft and Romesh Ranganathan to split the £83,000 prize for their charities.

Acaster's perspective and BBC response

On spin-off show Uncloaked, Acaster called his final roundtable a "shocker" and said he had no heat on him before the confrontation. The BBC stated that participant welfare is its highest priority and that a dedicated welfare team monitors players throughout filming.

Osman's theory on Acaster's motive

Osman speculated that Acaster had been looking for an exit door that would not blow up the show or appear as quitting. He suggested Acaster did not want to face the endgame where he would have to look people in the eye and confirm his identity.
