Palacete Severo, a luxury boutique hotel in Porto's Cedofeita district, offers a sanctuary that combines contemporary art, historic architecture, and Michelin-starred dining. The property, housed in a 1904 yellow-walled palace built by architect Ricardo Severo, preserves original stained glass, dark timber panelling, and stuccoed ceilings alongside rotating exhibitions from Portuguese and international artists.
Location and Atmosphere
Situated west of the historic centre, the hotel sits in a leafy neighbourhood known for independent shops and galleries, about a 20-minute walk from the tourist hubs of Ribeira and Baixa. Owner Géraldine Banier, who runs a contemporary art gallery in Paris, has created the Perspective Galerie throughout the hotel, featuring a changing programme of paintings, sculptures, and photography. The building is set in an original garden with mature chestnut trees, flowers, and a heated outdoor saltwater pool.
Accommodation
The hotel comprises 20 bedrooms and suites divided into Heritage and Garden categories. Eleven rooms in the original building feature stuccoed ceilings, oak floors, and stone balconies. The newer Garden wing offers verandas overlooking the garden with velvet and sumptuous fabrics. All rooms include marble bathrooms with underfloor heating, rainwater showers, a television, and at least one piece of art.
Dining
Fine dining is centred at Éon, headed by Michelin-starred chef Tiago Bonito. The tasting menu reimagines Portuguese and Mediterranean classics using local ingredients, with standout dishes such as skewered ceviche prawn with consommé, hake, beef, and a "childhood memories" dessert incorporating candy floss, churros, and petit fours. Bistro Severo serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a glass-roofed courtyard with green-and-white tiles, offering a relaxed yet high-quality menu. An intimate bar provides aperitifs and nightcaps with knowledgeable bartenders.
Facilities and Services
The heated outdoor saltwater pool is surrounded by flowers, shrubs, and trees. The spa offers facials, massages (relaxation, recovery, energising), reflexology, and a purification ceremony using Olivier Claire luxury French products. Additional amenities include a Himalayan salt room, a Turkish bath, and event space in the first-floor gallery. Service is described as attentive, warm, and knowledgeable without being overbearing, with security at the main gate.

One accessible room features a larger bathroom with lower basins and support rails. Pets are not allowed. Check-in is at 3pm, check-out at midday, and guests must be aged 16 or above.
