Scientists Detect Signals from 'Zeptoverse' at Large Hadron Collider

By Islam El-Sakka

Scientists have detected signals from the smallest scale of nature ever explored, a realm 100 billion times smaller than an atom that physicists have nicknamed the "zeptoverse." The findings come from an experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) on the Swiss-French border.

Probing the Zeptoverse

The research, led by scientists based in Cambridge, used the LHC to smash atoms together and examine their internal structure. The results could help researchers develop a more complete theory of how the universe works.

BBC science correspondent Pallab Ghosh explained the minuscule scale of the zeptoverse, highlighting its potential to advance fundamental physics. Additional reporting was contributed by Salman Mushatat.
