Claudia Winkleman has revealed she chose to end her BBC One chat show after a single series because she did not enjoy the format and felt it did not suit her strengths.
Winkleman: 'Not What I'm Good At'
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, the 54-year-old presenter said the BBC had encouraged her to try a chat show, but she quickly realized it was not for her. “I didn’t enjoy it, I didn’t like having my name on it, it’s not what I’m good at. I need a format – it can’t just be me,” she said. Winkleman added that she has not dwelled on the decision, calling it “brilliant to give something a go” and “brilliant to fail.”
Success with The Traitors and On-Set Moments
Winkleman initially turned down the offer to host The Traitors but changed her mind after watching the Dutch original. The show has since become a hit, with the latest celebrity series peaking at 15 million viewers. She also recounted a light-hearted moment during filming when actor Richard E Grant accidentally revealed he was a Traitor, causing her to drop a baked potato. The series was ultimately won by Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian Croft.
The full interview appears in the December/January edition of Harper’s Bazaar UK, available from 6 November.
