Lando Norris topped the final practice session for the Mexico City Grand Prix, edging out Kimi Antonelli by just 0.001 seconds on Saturday.
Antonelli poised for championship
The 20-year-old Mercedes driver needs only a ninth-place finish in Sunday's race to become Formula One's youngest world champion, though he has vowed to secure the title in style.
Practice standings
Charles Leclerc placed third for Ferrari, over a tenth of a second behind Norris, while Oscar Piastri was fourth for McLaren. Max Verstappen finished fifth but will incur a one-place grid penalty for a collision with Liam Lawson during Friday's second practice. Lewis Hamilton ended the session sixth.
Penalties and incidents
Verstappen's former Red Bull teammate Lawson received the same penalty and faces uncertainty over his Racing Bulls seat for next season. Verstappen called the incident "not smart" given Lawson's position. Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar was issued a formal warning by the FIA after shoving a fan who attempted a selfie as the French driver headed to the garage. The FIA deemed Hadjar reacted to an uninvited and aggressive intrusion into his personal space.
Haas driver change
Haas announced that Esteban Ocon has been replaced for the remainder of the weekend by Ryo Hirakawa, without providing an explanation. Ocon, who is leaving Haas at season's end and currently without a 2025 seat, clashed with his race engineer during Friday's second practice. The team has not indicated its driver lineup for the Brazilian Grand Prix next weekend.
