Trump Hunkers Down at Fortified Mar-a-Lago for Midterm Tele-Rally Blitz

President Donald Trump is spending the final weekend before Election Day at his Mar-a-Lago compound in Florida, conducting a blitz of 19 tele-rallies to support Republican candidates across the United States. Surface-to-air missile systems have been deployed near the property and at the newly renamed Donald J. Trump International Airport at the request of the U.S. Secret Service, according to federal officials. The defenses are designed to counter potential aerial threats, including aircraft and drones, though officials have not disclosed the specific reason for the enhanced security.

Early Voting Surges in Key Battleground States

Nearly 50 million Americans have already cast ballots, with early voting outpacing the rate seen during the 2022 midterm elections. The surge comes as candidates enter a final weekend of campaigning for control of Congress. Trump's schedule changed after he briefly canceled in-person rallies in Kansas and Iowa, then reinstated them for Sunday following pressure from GOP officials. The president had snapped at a reporter who asked about the cancellation, saying he did not feel he needed to go to Kansas.

Trump Confronts Heckler at Florida Rally

At a Friday night rally in Daytona Beach, Trump shouted "shut up" at a protester who interrupted his remarks just minutes into his speech. The incident marks the latest in a series of clashes with demonstrators during his midterm campaign swing. It remains unclear what the heckler was shouting.

Court Rulings Block Administration Election Actions

In a significant legal setback, a federal judge in California ordered the Trump administration to stop threatening election officials with criminal prosecution over alleged noncitizen voting. U.S. District Judge Trina Thompson wrote that the government's actions were likely to interfere with election administration and disenfranchise lawful voters. Hours earlier, a federal appeals court blocked the administration's effort to segregate 20,000 ballots in California, a move another judge warned would wreak havoc on the state's elections. The legal battles could reach the Supreme Court.

GOP Expresses Confidence in Kansas and Iowa Senate Races

Republicans say they are "feeling bullish" about their prospects in Kansas and Iowa, citing the rally schedule reversal as evidence. However, polls show tight races: Democrat Adam Hamilton holds a narrow lead over Republican Roger Marshall in Kansas, while Republican Ashley Hinson leads Democrat Josh Turek by two points in Iowa, according to recent polling averages.
