Erin Patterson Appeals Mushroom Murder Conviction in Australian Court

By Sohaib Shams

Convicted mushroom murderer Erin Patterson appeared via video link from the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in the Victorian Court of Appeal in August as her legal team argued seven grounds for a retrial.

Appeal grounds include juror misconduct allegations

Patterson's lawyers contended that allowing jurors to stay in the same hotel as police and prosecutors during deliberations in the triple murder trial represented a “catastrophic” failure of the justice system. The court previously heard prosecutors argued Patterson should have been given no possibility of parole or a non-parole period so lengthy she would likely die in prison.
