Judi Dench Recalls Funny Pierce Brosnan Reunion Over Bond Doormat

By Basant El-Faramawy

Dame Judi Dench has shared an amusing anecdote about reuniting with Pierce Brosnan years after they starred together in four James Bond films. Dench played MI6 chief "M" throughout Brosnan's tenure as 007, from GoldenEye to Die Another Day, and continued in the role during the early Daniel Craig era.

Memoir Promotion and Health Update

Appearing on BBC Radio 4's Today programme to promote her new memoir, Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It?, Dench said Brosnan visited her house and was stunned to find a Bond-themed doormat reading, "I've been expecting you, Mr Bond." She noted the novelty mat had been there for a very long time. Dench also spoke about her recent health struggles, revealing that age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has left her unable to read scripts, perform on stage, or act in films.

Next James Bond Speculation Continues

The interview comes amid ongoing speculation about who will succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. Recent reports suggest four actors are testing for the role, including Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O'Connor. Director Denis Villeneuve has been attached to the forthcoming reboot, while retired casting director Debbie McWilliams emphasized the need for the next Bond to retain a total enigma.
