President Donald Trump unleashed a 1,300-word tirade against comedian Bill Maher on Truth Social late Sunday, labeling the HBO host a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER” and disputing Maher’s account of their recent White House dinner. The post, reported by CNN as Trump’s longest ever on the platform, came after Friday’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” which featured an appearance by former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Trump disputes Maher’s characterization of White House dinner
Trump’s rant focused heavily on two dinners he shared with Maher at the White House, the most recent on October 15 alongside musician Kid Rock and ESPN host Stephen A. Smith. Trump claimed Maher had been eager to return after the first dinner, saying “The Gofer called me multiple times, saying how much Bill loves me.” He also asserted the second dinner lasted only two hours or “maybe less,” contradicting Maher’s on-air joke that it lasted four hours.
President criticizes Maher’s show and polling claims
Trump accused Maher of using a “laughter machine” to manufacture audience reactions, despite the show having a live audience. He also alleged Maher cited fake polls to suggest Trump had received his “lowest ratings so far.” The president wrote, “Bill Maher lied, but he lies about everything,” and added, “Bill: Don’t call anymore.”
From praise to attack within days
The scathing post marked a sharp reversal from Trump’s comments a day after the October 15 dinner, when he told reporters, “Bill Maher, I tell you what, he likes me a lot more than people understand, and I actually like him.” In his Sunday post, Trump claimed Maher had been “very nervous” and “very insecure” during their first meeting, and described him as having “a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn’t me!”
Maher has not yet responded publicly to Trump’s post.
