Two former leaders of the Justice Department's antitrust division have launched FluxCap, an artificial intelligence platform aimed at helping lawyers handle complex cases more efficiently. Jonathan Kanter and Doha Mekki, who both served as assistant attorneys general under President Joe Biden, announced the company on Wednesday.
Government experience drives mission
Kanter and Mekki said the idea for FluxCap came from their time at the DOJ, where they estimated they could only pursue about 10% of the cases they believed were worth bringing. "We were completely outnumbered," Kanter said. "We had some of the greatest lawyers in the world, but we needed more people than we could possibly bring in."
Specialized legal AI
Unlike general-purpose AI tools, FluxCap is designed specifically for complex legal work with an initial focus on antitrust law. The platform can review hundreds of legal documents, conduct research, develop legal strategies, and identify evidence gaps in a fraction of the time a human team would require. The founders plan to expand into additional legal fields.
Supporting lawyers, not replacing them
"We're not trying to be a better lawyer; we're trying to help lawyers be better," Kanter said. Mekki added that the technology could help more people access legal representation and recover economic losses suffered in the marketplace.
