CNN's chief data analyst Harry Enten predicts Democrats will win a substantial majority in the House of Representatives in next Tuesday's midterm elections, forecasting they will secure 223 seats — well above the 218 needed for control.
Trump's campaign efforts and praise for Enten
President Donald Trump has been campaigning aggressively for Republican candidates, holding daily rallies and even promising $5,000 to Americans if Republicans retain Congress. Trump previously praised Enten's credibility on Truth Social, calling him "the best person on CNN" after Enten highlighted Trump's popularity in historical comparisons.
Polling data and GOP concerns
A New York Times/Siena University poll shows Democrats with an 11-point lead nationally in House races, with 52 percent of likely voters favoring Democratic candidates versus 41 percent for Republicans. Enten noted that House races have historically been conservative, with about 17 toss-up contests remaining. Several House Republicans have privately admitted they expect to lose the majority, according to a Politico report, with one GOP lawmaker saying the party must "survive that political storm" created by Trump's self-focused campaign.
White House response
White House Assistant Press Secretary Liz Huston stated that President Trump remains committed to maintaining Republican majorities in both the House and Senate.
